OVERCOME OBSTACLES

No good information from Japan in the first 6 months of the year repeatedly coming made many seafood producers and exporters unable to enjoy food and sleep well. Though a lot of effort and money were spent for inspecting raw material, shortcoming is still at 1.6% (ratio of Vietnamese seafood lots detected with residue of banned chemicals and antibiotics in Japan in the first 6 months of the year 2007). Japanese customers requested us to have more effective actions and right in the second quarter Japan has decreased considerably its purchasing quantity from Vietnam and changed to buy from other countries with more safety. FMC has controlled well its product quality in past 6 months and there was no its cargo detected with banned chemicals and antibiotics in Japan, but major customers here have decreased drastically their buying volumn that causes difficulty for FimexVN’s product consumption.

However, due to having prepared in advance FMC has established a sound basis after Seafood Exhibition Fair in Boston (USA) in March 2007 to change its consumption direction to one of the largest markets in the world. This contributes to keep FMC’s consumption turnover in the first 6 months not decreasing due to dependent on Japanese market, but increasing over 16% from that of same period in year 2006. And FMC’s market share has changed. It’s the first time that Japan holds only 35% (previously about 60%), and U.S market increases to 42.5% (previously 35%), E.U market 6.5% (previously inconsiderable).
These days in July, harvest season of farmed black tiger shrimp starts in Cuu Long river delta. Pretty big volumn of shrimps is being harvested and transported to processing factories. FMC can collect enough raw material for processing and get consumption contracts in time. Implicit waves are disapprearing. However, FMC still defines Japan is its important market where FMC has founded its good reputation and prestige and gets good profit. FMC continues to implement better food safety and sanitation control with the hope of getting reciprocation by its best effort – Japan will inbound step by step technical barriers being applied to our seafood products. Today (Jul 16, 2007) General Director of FMC is on the way to Japan for attending Seafood and Technology Exhibition Fair and negotiating with its big customers on business plan in future. This is in the above mentioned effort of FMC.
The first 6 months of 2007, FMC has spent more expenses to increase inspection frequency against raw material and other stages in processing line. Value-added products having good profit ratio to Japanese market has suddenly decreased in volumn which is one of the main reasons of a bit lower profit of the first 6 months, reach VND 8 billion. Nevertheless, FMC’s total profit of the year is decided mainly in the shrimp harvest season (from July to October annually). The hope is still ahead.
FMC’s managing board and employees are still making their best effort so that FMC’s products are displayed on shelves of big restaurants and supermarkets in the world in order to improve their lives and keep their achievement in a long time. We hope that this effort will make investors secure.
